Product Development Manager - Stop Loss Insurance

Summary:

Consolidated Health Plans is seeking a qualified Product Development Manager focused on new business development and growth in the Stop- loss insurance marketplace. The Product Development Manager will lead strategic product development and is responsible for the planning and execution of Stop-loss products and building a roadmap to support profitable growth.  This position is responsible for communicating milestones and status to Senior Management and key partners. Responsibilities include leading market/segment analysis, product definition, competitive assessment and pricing strategies, ensuring that products deliver superior value to customers while monitoring and adhering to all state and federal regulations. Additionally the role will be responsible to monitor trends in the market and adjust product offerings, pricing, promotion, and packaging based on market conditions, competitive landscape, and market and regulator feedback. Success will be achieved through strong, proactive partnerships across a matrixed organization, including Sales, Underwriting, Finance, Compliance, Marketing, Account Management, and other key operations. Results will be measured in growth, persistency and earnings, as well as execution of assigned objectives. Candidate must have both a Market and a P&L orientation with well-developed matrix management, analytical and influencing skills to accomplish key objectives.

 Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years’ experience in the Stop-loss industry;
  • Proficient technical expertise and demonstrated background on successfully developing Stop-loss products from start to finish;
  • Familiarity and understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements;
  • Underwriting background is preferred;
  • Familiar and understand the necessary requirements to comply with state filings for Stop-loss products in various states;
  • Demonstrated expertise in understanding of financial, marketing, and strategy concepts a plus;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communicator with the ability to work with staff from all levels and convey complex sometimes technical information in an understandable way; 
  • Strategic and creative thinker with ability to think outside the box and translate strategies and customer insights into actions/requirements/implementation;
  • Self driven with the proven ability to work effectively and lead cross-functional teams and drive results with strong sense of urgency;
  • Multitasker who can handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines and shift gears between projects; 
  • Strong influencing and presentation skills;
  • Able to travel for business as necessary. 

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead product planning and development to accomplish near and long term strategic goals and vision;
  • Monitor state and federal regulation for impact to product and filings;
  • Oversee the various state product and rate filings, by coordinating with Compliance and Finance;
  • Possess a technical understanding of product and regulatory requirements along with ability to organize large and small scale product development and management initiatives that translate product feedback into feature and requirements specifications, and ensure that feedback is incorporated to meet both regulatory and customer needs;
  • Act as the Stop-loss product owner/subject matter expert for a variety of products/benefits and work closely with the team to  foster collaboration with internal partners that support product development and quality/cost management initiatives;
  • Understand and be positioned to respond to key trends, regulatory adjustments, environmental forces and market needs;
  • Works closely with other Stop-loss business leaders to develop business case for new products/or features including financial justifications and ROI analysis to drive resource and investment decisions and further growth;
  • Execute on strategic plans by designing tactical approaches to new Stop-loss products and pricing with the ability to think strategically and drive results and implement tactically;
  • Craft product messaging, positioning and differentiation strategies for existing and new products and effectively communicate value proposition and business value to key customers and the market;
  • Partner with appropriate matrix partners to develop tools, training, and communications specific to products and benefits; facilitate training as necessary;
  • Specify segment requirements for current and future products by conducting regulatory, market and competitive research;
  • Research trends in the Stop-loss  marketplace and identify opportunities for new product development and enhancements for continual growth with efficient operations, service, and enterprise and product strategy;
  • Work closely with Sales, Finance and Marketing to develop strategy initiatives to position the company to meet established goals for growth and profitability;
